Mr Finn’s fishing book released thanks to Dunbeath writing group

Graham Finn from Dunbeath has penned his first book thanks to a local creative writing group and his subject of fishing seems particularly appropriate given his surname. Independently published on January 29, the book is called ‘Life isn’t Always About Fishing’ and is now available to buy on Amazon. Graham said that Dunbeath and District Centre’s community health and wellbeing hub provided the impetus for his new venture thanks to a creative writing class run at the centre. Read more…

Farlows Lake in Iver named one of the UK’s best fishing spots

A lake situated along the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire border has been ranked as one of the best to visit for fishing in the UK.

Farlows Lake, which is based in Iver, came in as the fourth greatest in the country, with an average score of 8.24. The survey was conducted by Fishing Republic as they analysed fishing licence requirements, average day permit cost, additional cost for a second rod, availability of night fishing, suitability for beginner anglers, cost of parking, number of fish species, availability of a café/tackle shop, and types of fishing available at a range of locations in the UK to reveal the best spots. Kingdom champs, Tarn re-opens plus sea fishing updates

Scott Mudie has confirmed the dates for the Kingdom Fly Fishing Championship which will have two heats and a final. Eden Springs hosts heat one on Saturday, June 1, and there are 26 spaces and Ballo Fishery is the venue for heat two on Sunday, July 14, and there are 20 spaces here. The final is back at Eden Springs on Saturday, September 28, and there are 26 slots. Entry is £25 and is non-refundable and must be paid before places are confirmed. Read more…

Upbeat opening for salmon season on Angus rivers after Storm Babet’s costly impact

Some fishery owners suffered six-figure damage but there is optimism for 2024 salmon fishing prospects on the North and South Esk. Sunshine greeted anglers on the opening day of the Angus salmon season – in contrast to Storm Babet conditions which left some beat owners with repair bills of more than £100,000. And despite the serious impact on both the South and North Esks, fishers are queuing up to return to their favourite stretches of water. It comes just weeks after the Atlantic Salmon was added to an international ‘red list’ of species feared to be facing extinction. Read more…

‘Draconian’ Environment Agency depriving Shrewsbury anglers from fishing spot used for last 35 years

Anglers have hit out at “draconian” measures depriving them of one of a town’s best fishing spots. Salmon anglers have said the Environment Agency (EA) are shunting them 20m further down the river in Shrewsbury away from the weir, taking away a spot which has been fished for “at least 35 years”.
