Illegal River Itchen fisherman fined after catching salmon and trout

A man has been fined after he was caught illegally fishing for Salmon and Trout in the River Itchen. Alex Ferrucci was hit with a £100 fine in his absence on Friday after he admitted to fishing in the River Itchen at Riverside, Bishopstoke without a licence. He also pleaded guilty to contravening a byelaw in respect of fisheries in that he stored fish in a keepnet of less than two metres in length. Read more…

Kevin McCabe won the first heat of the Scottish National Trout Fly Fishing Championship held at the Lake of Menteith, beating 42 other anglers. McCabe of Change Fly Fishing Angling Club hooked into 21 fish for 42lb 14.8oz and was well ahead of the second-placed angler, George Telford of Avonbank Fishery who are based at Millhall near Polmont. He totalled 16 fish for 32lb 12.4oz. Read more...

People in the UK who fish have been warned over a £443 fine. Christopher Way, from Plymouth, has been cruelly fined £443 for an illegal fishing trip in a UK seaside town after making a £7 blunder while casting his line in Cornwall. The fisherman, from York, was caught at Porth Reservoir, Newquay, and found guilty of using an unlicensed rod and line for fishing freshwater fish or eels in regulated waters. The 30-year-old contravened Section 27(1)(a) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975. Read more…
